So I was sitting here playing with my one year old when I realized that he was over the music we were singing long before I was. Now you will have to keep up with me here, I don’t understand why preschool and kindergarten teachers can’t use more videos with teaching the children. I believe we are so missing the opportunity to use video and games to teach the kids actively.
In college prep courses they teach you to learn and study actively, this may be repeating out-loud, drawing out the equation or problem, and using other methods to retain information. They also teach that each person learns differently, and that you should figure out what’s best for you to retain the important information they are teaching you. They being institutional learning; teaches this long after most students have started let’s face it this comes from college that means that most students have been in rigid learning systems for approximately twelve years.
Twelve years of struggling Learning Disabilities, twelve years of rewriting, writing, and rewriting. Twelve years of falling asleep while the teacher gives you the most boring lectures alive. I like to call these twelve years of black and white learning, while living in a three-dimensional world of color. As the parent of a child with a learning disability I always hear from teachers well we have 30 students.
Yea, and you can’t tell me making learning fun, means your only doing it for one student. This makes parents like me angry, agitated, frustrated and quite frankly wanting to tell that teacher how we really feel. My family has several teachers in it; I probably would have been a teacher, if I liked other people’s children more. Teaching is close to my heart, and I do what I can with my own children, tutoring and finding them access to learning avenues, most parents tend to ignore. When not understanding a topic we try to find the steps to learning that topic. It doesn’t always work but we do at the very least try.
So as you will see from my pinterest board and from this blog, maybe I can help inspire some teachers, parents and tutors who otherwise wouldn’t be as creative. When I was child we used Refrigerator boxes to design our store fronts, Bank, and other buildings, today other students do similar projects. Here are two classrooms in the present day village of creative learning that I want everyone to take note of….
They continue this lesson in these classrooms. I have included some worksheets for this particular program because it does teach the kids practicality of the subjects they are learning. Hopefully they will come out on the other side of these lessons with an understanding of usage in the real world.
Kudos, to hard work and your achievement…..
